TAL Vox Assignment: Accidental Documentaries
This Week's Assignment:
Have you ever been recorded and then later, been shocked by how you looked or sounded on tape? "That's not what I sound like, right?" "I don't really act like that all the time, do I?" Tell us your stories about accidental documentaries and what they revealed.
Here's our take on it:
This American Life, Episode # 14: Accidental Documentaries
Stories made from old tapes, found in various places, including:
the story of a Michigan family in the 1960's, told entirely through
a "letter on tape" they made, which was found in a Salvation
Army Thrift Store. Host Ira Glass with old tapes of his father
in the radio, circa 1956. And Chicago radio producer Nora Moreno,
with tapes of her father on the radio. He was a pioneer in Spanish
broadcasting in America, and her mother fell in love with him over
the radio, with tragic results. Broadcasts July 13-15 on This American Life.
